Memorial Day Parades and events in Rochester NY and the Finger Lakes 2024.
Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of the summer, is celebrated the last Monday of each May to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military (as opposed to Veterans Day, which celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.) On Memorial Day, the flag of the United States is initially raised to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to half-staff to position in tribute to the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of this country. The flag remains at half-staff until noon,when it is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day.

The parade will step-off at 1:00pm and follow a two-mile route from Lehigh Station Road to East Henrietta Road to Calkins Road to the Henrietta Senior Center. Following the parade there will be a brief ceremony at Veterans Memorial to honor those who gave their lives for our country. Directly after the ceremony, there will be a picnic at the Recreation Center.

On May 30, which Waterloo always observes as Memorial Day in keeping with Logan’s Orders, children will decorate graves of veterans, there will be prayer services in the village cemeteries, the village’s VFW and American Legion will conduct a military parade at 4 pm. Ceremonies in Lafayette Park will feature government officials and special dignitaries.
